ATOMS - Adjustable TransObturator Male System

Treatment of male stress urinary incontinence

The ATOMS (Adjustable TransObturator Male System) is a long-term, single-use adjustable implant. This hydraulic sphincter-cushion system substitutes urinary sphincter function in incontinent adult males.

  • ATOMS is used for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence in male patients
  • Implant consists of monofilament mesh arms with a silicone cushion with fixation sutures
  • The cushion supports the bulbar urethra
  • Intra- or postoperative adjustment by filling/removing volume of the cushion to counteract either continuing incontinence or urinary retention
  • ATOMS is made of biocompatible synthetic material

Functioning principles of ATOMS

ATOMS

  • The suburethral sphincter cushion of ATOMS applies compression to the m. bulbospongiosus and thereby to the urethra. This compression reduces involuntary loss of urine while still facilitating physiological contraction to cause deliberate urination.

  • 4-point fixation, the sling is a self-anchoring device and the symmetrical positioning of the cushion below the urethra is achieved by a 4-point fixation. The integrated mesh arms are drawn back around the inferior pubic ramus to the middle of the implant to secure the system in place.Easy-to-use probes with instant audio feedback and

      intuitive visual identification.

  • Scrotal Port is positioned in the scrotum. Via the port, the filling volume of the cushion and thereby the compression to the m. bulbospongiosus is adjustable. Filling volume is adjusted using a non-coring port needle by the surgeon and depends on the patient´s anatomy and needs.
